Briefly about the project

Global Game Jam Rijeka is part of the world's largest hackathon for video game development, which brings together participants from over 100 countries to create completely new games – whether digital or social – in 48 hours, inspired by a global theme. Rijeka has been hosting this event since 2019.

 

The environment is intensive, educational and results-oriented. The program is tailored to the needs of young people and the development of skills:

Introduction to Global Game Jam:

• Discovering the global theme and getting to know the teams
• "How to pitch your game" radionica
• 48-hour marathon: Making games from scratch
• Pitch in front of a panel of judges & evaluation
• Award ceremony: for the 3 best works and 3 thematic awards

Project objectives

Rijeka has become a center of game-dev talent. In 2025, we achieved a record turnout and number of games produced, and in 2026 we are raising the bar even higher: we are planning over 100 participants at the largest and most productive domestic Global Game Jam competition!

The project was funded by the Kultura Nova Foundation and the City of Rijeka.
